Jeana Conalas

Let’s Talk! Director Communication Coach

Jeana, a born bluenoser, spent most of her childhood in New Brunswick and returned to Halifax in 2004. After completing a degree at Dalhousie University she completed the Communication Disorders Technician Program through NSCC.

Since 2009 Jeana has been working as a Communication Disorders Technician; working with children with speech, language, and social communication delays. She has over 7 years experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.

Prior to working as a CDT she was an Instructor of Kaplan’s SpellRead Program; working with preschool and elementary children on their writing and reading skills. Jeana has also held the position of Senior Camp Counsellor for the Autism Summer Camp through Autism Nova Scotia, and was a volunteer with the Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia’s LINKS Program tutoring elementary children with reading and writing learning disabilities.

Jeana is passionate about working with children and improving the quality of their life by helping them reach their communication goals and increase their connection to their families, friends, and community. Jeana is focused on a family-centered approach; meaning your goals are her priority. She sees every child as an individual first, and wants to use their unique strengths to help them succeed and feel a greater sense of inner strength and belonging.

Does your child use PECS, an iPad, or another AAC device to communicate? …Let’s Talk!

Let’s Talk! will support your child in learning to communicate with AAC, educating other family members and friends in how to communicate with your child, and setting up opportunities for your child to communicate in a variety of situations and with a variety of people.

Do you wish your child was able to use their communication with more people, or when out and about in their community?   …Let’s Talk!

Let’s Talk! will support your child in community outings and participating in events or groups where they can work on their communication goals. This could include having a conversation at the playground, ordering food at a restaurant, or asking a stranger for directions. Let’s Talk will support your child to use their communication in new ways and with new people, encouraging more independence and connection.

Let’s Talk! will design assignments that are engaging for your child.  Thinking outside the box to find ways to not only tackle their literacy goals- but have fun while doing so!


Where do sessions take place?

Let’s Talk! will provide services in your home, at school (with permission from school), after school programs or other childcare facilities (with permission), extracurricular activities, or other various places in the community.

Intensive *PECS Support Package:  *Picture Exchange Communication System

Is your child currently learning the PECS? Would you like to increase your child’s ability to use PECS with a variety of people, in different situations, and for more complex requests?

Is your child entering a new class or group, where the teachers are unfamiliar with PECS or need support in finding opportunities throughout the day?

This package provides three 3 hour blocks of service, ideally within one week, to ensure a comprehensive view on the ways we can incorporate PECS into your child’s daily routine. The intensity will help your child learn the process as well as generalize their skill to all areas of their life. The longer, more frequent, blocks of service also helps to support communication partners in learning their role, and increases their capacity to continue finding opportunities to connect.

  • 3, 3 hour blocks (9 hours direct service)

  • Training and support for various Communication Partners

  • 1:1 Direct support for your child, in a variety of settings
